Revitalising drink
This garlic and ginger infusion will set you up for the day and stimulate your body’s immune system!
During a time of some health issues, I was browsing the shelves of a bookshop and came across one of the most important books now on my bookshelf — Heal your Gut by Lee Holmes, published by Murdoch Books.
This recipe is my go-to for times when I feel my digestive system is sluggish and I am feeling a drop in my vitality. It’s best taken first thing in the morning but can be taken throughout the day. If I have a cold coming on I will add a teaspoon of UMF 20+ honey to further fortify the anti-biotic properties of garlic.
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar (I use apple cider vinegar with Mother)
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 2 cloves of garlic (crushed)
- 5 cm (2 inch) of ginger (peeled and grated)
- Pinch of cayenne pepper (optional)
- 500ml (2 cups) of water — filtered is best
- Sweetened to taste (use natural sweeteners like stevia, honey or maple syrup)
Method
Put the apple cider vinegar, lemon juice, garlic, ginger and cayenne pepper in a teapot. Add boiling water and allow to infuse for a few minutes, add sweetener, strain and enjoy!
Note: if using the medicinal grade of honey use cold water and slowly add boiled water until the mixture is tepid. If the water is too hot it will affect the potency of the honey.
